For our agents we develop AI technology. Here, the concept of OWN grew out of ideas for human-AI interaction. We summarize them in our manifest:
We believe that visualization is key. In order for humans to make decisions and to understand complex processes and analytical results, we cannot rely on text or audio chat as the data bandwidth is highly limited and does not allow to keep up with intelligent systems. Only our visual channel prevents us from becoming the pets of our AI.
We believe that humans should be in control. That is the reason why at OWN humans actively pick agents and make them part of their team. At any moment the human team can decide to stop working with an AI agent or pick an alternative intelligent agent.
We believe that AI requires competition and open markets. A key challenge for the world is AI dominance by single players. That is why our vision is to create an open market platform where different vendors can offer intelligent agents. This also allows to achieve collaboration between artificial agents across organizational boundaries.
We believe that ultimately humans and not computers should decide how to use computer systems. OWN is a system open for user appropriation. There is not only one specific way to use the system, instead humans can fit the highly flexible system to their needs. As, all complex problems today are intrinsically wicked and require creative, interdisciplinary, intercultural solutions, OWN is designed to be that open platform (like LEGO with AI bricks if you will), for anybody who is building solutions to the world’s complex problems.
We believe that AI should be as accountable and open as possible. With our initial users we work on bringing light into the “black box” of AI. At OWN we work on allowing users to configure algorithms. We visualize results and reveal sources. We also allow to make statistical results available to our users for them judge the relevance and importance of findings.
